Women’s Health Club and Pfizer Host Scientific Night on RSV and Maternal Immunization

On May 12, 2025, the Women’s Health Club, in collaboration with Pfizer, organized a compelling scientific night titled *“Safeguarding Our Little Ones: A Spotlight on RSV and Maternal Immunization.”* The event aimed to raise awareness and promote scientific dialogue on the importance of protecting infants against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), especially through maternal immunization.

Expert Insights on RSV

The evening featured two distinguished speakers who brought regional and global perspectives on RSV prevention:

* Dr. Hesham Alekri opened the session with a lecture titled *“RSV in Infants: Unveiling the Burden and Implications.”* He discussed the significant health risks RSV poses to newborns and infants, highlighting its impact on hospitalization rates, clinical outcomes, and healthcare systems.

* Dr. Roberto Debbag, a renowned global expert in infectious diseases, delivered a lecture titled *“Protecting Infants Through Maternal Immunization: A Focus on RSV Prevention.”* His presentation emphasized the role of maternal vaccination in reducing RSV-related complications in early infancy, and reviewed emerging data and global strategies.

The session sparked an engaging discussion among healthcare professionals, reaffirming the urgency of advancing RSV prevention initiatives in maternal and child health policies.

As part of the event, the Bahrain Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (BOGA) took a moment to honor outstanding research contributions.
